Stand – Still!!

 When I think of being firm in my faith one word comes to mind STAND!  and in that many scriptures also pop up. Nevertheless one that i find interesting is Exodus 14:13.  It says:

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more forever”. KJV

Stand simply means: to hold your ground or Be firm in your faith/beliefs.

 I have found that in order for God’s glory to be revealed there must be a crisis or a situation of desperation and helplessness and that is the time we are normally forced to Stand!  This is so because thats when our faith is challenged and the outcome reveals our level of maturity.

So according to Exodus 14 there  are a few things I have learnt:

1. Standing (still) helps you to hear the commands of the Lord thereby causing a strategy for warfare against the enemy. [vs. 1-4].    Like the Movie 300 the Spartan  army had to be still in certain formation so they could hear the commands of the leader and be victorious in their many fights against the enemy.  This also reminds me of Joshua in  Joshua chapter 6.

2.   Standing (still) helps you to hold your peace thereby allowing us to focus on God instead of the situation. [vs. 14] This reminds me of Peter in Matthew 14:27-32.  If  Peter had stood still in God’s peace while on the water then he would have been able to focus more on Jesus than the rocky rough waves of the sea and therefore would not have began to sink.

 3.  Standing (still) gives you sensitivity to the Holy Spirit thereby allowing you to know when to move forward. [vs. 15] Its like a lion stalking its prey. He sits still for minutes studying the movements and actions before launching an attack.  Hence the Bible tells us that the devil goes around as a roaring lion  – {1Peter 5:8}

4.  Standinging (still) gives God the opportunity to move on your behalf (without our help/obstruction/interference) [vs.21-31] thereby revealing his greatness, building our faith in Him which causes us to know Him and also reverentially fear Him.     {Hebrews 10:30}, {Ps. 46:10}

 God also said the same thing to the Israelites when they were about to fight a battle when the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites* came to wage war against Jehoshaphat: “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you”. 2 Chronicles 20:17 – KJV   So if we add this along with what we already recognize about sanding still, then we can say one final thing:

5.  Standing still allows you to see the salvation of the Lord?  Yeah when we wait..and stand still especially in the midst of danger, darkness or despair, he rescues us thereby saving us.  IT IS THAT SIMPLE!!!

So really when you have done all you can, like the song writer says: “JUST STAND”
