“Mentor: Someone whose hindsight can become your foresight”. [Foresight Quotes]
Mentorship is important to our development in the pursuit of greatness in this life.
A mentor is someone who is discerning and has recognized what is inside of you and therefore will mold and shape you as a person including the gifts, talents, abilities and anointing on your life and bring you into maturity. Mentoring in and of itself may be defined as a relational experience where one person empowers another by sharing God-given resources.
Mentors affirm you, get you involved and allow you to learn about yourselves and others. They push you ahead because they see in you quite possibly what others have not seen or what you have failed to realize. Along with mentorship, learn to practice self-talk and cultivate the habit of speaking the promises of God on your life on a daily basis. This goes a far way to helping you especially if you are in a situation where your mentor is unable to be present with you in a time of crisis or need.
You see, mentorship is like fertilizer for your purpose. It mixes with you, gets you involved in the present while, allowing you to appreciate the past and at the same time gives you passion to focus on the future. Fertilizer doesn’t make the plants grow but it assists greatly to speed up the process. It was Benjamin Franklin who said “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” He understood the beauty and importance of Mentoring. God has placed people all around you who have the power, potency, will, resources and anointing to help you but they may not approach you directly. Prayerfully go to God and ask Him to reveal persons in your environment who can become Mentors in your life who will guide you and help you to get to where He wants you to be.
Father I want to thank you for the wonderful people you have placed in our lives. I pray that you will cause us to be sensitive to those persons around us who You have positioned to mentor our lives into how You want it to be. Give us the ability to recognize them and thereby submit to their authority so Your purpose and the greatness within us may be released. Thank You for hearing and answering this prayer in Jesus’ name Amen.
“Apollos [was] an eloquent speaker who knew the Scriptures well… He had been taught the way of the Lord, and he taught others about Jesus with an enthusiastic spirit and with accuracy. However, he knew only about John’s baptism. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately”. Acts 18:24-26 (NLT)
